Sample Random Walks
Random walks come in a wide variety of shapes, as you can imagine. In fact, there are more unique random walks than there are stars in the sky. This is a small sampling of the kinds of patterns that can emerge from different walks. Click on each walk for a larger image.

A walk can have a cloudy appearance. It can have a shape, but the path itself does not show any real sense of direction.

A walk can follow a very clear path from beginning to end. It keeps right on moving, never crossing over itself, and never spending very long in one place.

A walk may combine elements of the previous two examples. This one starts out with no real sense of direction, then heads off to finish up and to the left.

A walk can have symmetry.

A walk can grow arms.
Sometimes, a walk can even end up right back where it started.
This is a tiny example of the different walks that are possible. More walks will be featured in the collection of walks generated by the participants on this site.
